Southern night sky

I went out last night to use my star gazing app on my iPhone . Big dipper, north star etc are gone. Sky is full of alien constellations. The Southern Cross with its four bright stars is high in the southern sky , it's brightest star pointing to the South Pole. This constellation is on the New Zealand flag
