Traditional Balinese Roofs

The traditional building is mahogany post and beam construction. The roof rafters are bamboo with a woven grass thatch roof. This ancient building design is durable and beautiful but incredibly labor intensive to construct. Although still used today, sadly, metal framed roofed cement houses are becoming more common . In another generation, these wonderful buildings will be gone.
