Philippine houses

Many people here on Leyte still live in traditional bamboo houses. They are built up off the ground with bamboo floors and woven walls that remind me of place mat material. Various geometric designs are woven into the walls. They never have glass windows, instead, an open weaving somewhat like chair seat canning. It's very strong construction; bamboo is tough stuff. Karen and I had a chance to tour a house at the beach that was for rent.( $ 10/ night, the woman said she'd cook us dinner for $ 1.50. The water front location was beautiful ) . I was impressed with the craftsman of the design and construction, they are
works of art. As everywhere else we've been, these traditional homes are being replaced with cheaper, longer lasting materials ( concrete ). It will be sad when in another generation they are gone.
