We took a boat trip today to nearby Limasawa Island where Magellan landed in 1521 on his trip around the world. He celebrated his first Mass on land in Asia there
and erected a cross on a nearby hill. We climbed the hill where a replica cross stands overlooking the beautiful islands stretching out to the horizon in all directions. Magellan was murdered by the natives on a nearby island.
Limasawa is a quiet place where the locals support themselves with fishing. We had a barbecue lunch on the beach after doing some snorkeling in the clear warm water. The
healthy coral reefs were full of colorful fish . English is the official Philippines language and children and adults alike all said hello and smiled. We saw no other tourists on the island.
