Samaria Gorge Crete
We arrived at our stone cottage in a tiny village in the mountains of Crete. We hiked across an arid plateau with the mountains looming around us. Goats and sheep are everywhere, there are very few people . The surrounding mountains are blanketed with heavy snows in the winter making it far too cold for olive growing. We are at 5000 ft elevation making for cooler days and chilly nites, our cottage has a wood burning fireplace . ( and Wifi !! ). Tomorrow we hike up one of the surrounding peaks, we will be able to see the Agean sea to the north with the Libyan sea to the south, stretching toward Africa. As always, the food and wine are wonderful , we love the Mediteranian diet !!
